Samsung To Bring Down Smartphone Price To Rs 10,000
While Samsung Wave has been launched on its own open mobile platform ‘bada’, Samsung Galaxy S is the company’s first smartphone based on Google’s Android. They are priced at Rs 19,100 and Rs 31,500, respectively.

Both the handsets feature 1GHz application processor.

“We want to make smartphones available to a larger population and our new platform will aid that,” The Economic Times quoted Ranjit Yadav, mobile and IT business, Samsung director as saying.

The company targets to capture 20 per cent of India’s market in the smartphone segment this year. It aims to sell about 50,000 smartphones in the current fiscal year and plans to launch eight more smartphones by year-end, almost half based on its own platform, according to The Economic Times.

The bada platform was recently announced at the Global Developer Day organised by Samsung Electronics in Bengaluru. Speaking at the Global Developer day, J S Shin, president and CEO, Samsung South West Asia, stated, “Samsung bada, our new mobile platform, is the key driver of our global smartphone strategy. I see the launch of Samsung bada as a powerful opportunity for developers all over the world, especially the vibrant Indian developer community renowned the world over, to get their applications onto an unprecedented number of Samsung devices worldwide.”
